Creating a more energy efficient and sustainable environment were definitely the goals for thousands of HVAC professionals attending the record-breaking 2013 AHR Expo in Dallas earlier this year. According to a post-show survey of 2013 attendees, 92% of respondents ranked energy efficient products/technology as the most important things to see at the Show.
Other product areas that were ranked “important” by the thousands of contractors, consulting specifying engineers, and other Show attendees were:
  • Green Building/Sustainability 81%
  • Automation & Controls 81%
  • Renewable Energy (solar, geothermal, etc.) 75%
  • Indoor Air Quality 81%
“It’s interesting to note that the top five areas Show attendees are most interested in seeing, are all related to saving energy and creating better indoor environments. It’s a growing part of the HVACR marketplace that is definitely reflected in many of the new products on display,” noted Clay Stevens, President of International Exposition Company, which produces and manages the AHR Expo. “Renewable energy continues to gain traction, ranking higher every year, with three fourths of the respondents ranking it fourth.”

Another important reason attendees listed for visiting the world's largest HVACR exposition was to “see what’s new on the market” (98%) and “visit with current suppliers” (94%). Other high-ranking reasons for attending include:

  • See specific new products first-hand - 94%
  • Look for new suppliers/vendors - 92%
  • Find solutions to address needs - 82%
  • Make decision to purchase            - 53%
  • Attend educational sessions - 43%
  • Attend meetings at the Show - 57%
In keeping with the desire to see new technologies and products, 50% said they visited the Building Automation & Control Showcase, while 34% visited the Software Center and 42% attended exhibitor presentations in the New Product & Technology Theaters.

“That’s why exhibitors use AHR Expo to showcase their latest products. In fact, in the Post-Show Exhibitor Survey, 65% said they introduced new products since the last AHR Expo and nearly half responded that they used the Show to introduce new products for the first time,” added Stevens. "For many companies, the Show is so important that they put a lot of effort into making sure that their new products are ready in time to be unveiled in their booths.”

The 2014 AHR Expo will be held January 21-23 in New York City. AHR Expo is endorsed by 35 of the leading HVACR industry associations and is co-sponsored by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). The Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) is an honorary sponsor. ASHRAE's Winter Conference is held concurrently with the AHR Expo each year.

LUDECA, Inc. has released the second video in a series of Crash Course Videos titled “Machine Train Alignment”.

According to Pedro Casanova, Manager of the Alignment Division, “The alignment of machine trains can be a lengthy task. In the past, alignment data of the entire machine train had to be manually graphed to scale in order to determine the optimal moves. The ROTALIGN ULTRA laser alignment tool can now instantly graph the alignment results of an entire machine train of up to fourteen machines to scale—maximizing efficiency and minimizing frustration. You can optimize an alignment centerline through a machine train to minimize corrective moves everywhere. Forget graph paper!”

The Machine Train Alignment video is available on LUDECA’s YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/LUDECAINC) and provides background knowledge along with tips and procedures for efficiently completing the alignment of multiple-element drives using laser alignment equipment. Additional video courses are planned and should be available soon.

Pump Appreciation Day Recognizes the Heart of Industry
April 9, 2013

As the second-most common machine in all of industry (after electric motors) pumps are at the heart of everything. As the second-most common machine in all of industry (after electric motors) pumps are at the heart of everything. The world's food, fuel, water and electricity are all processed and transported by pumps. To recognize this technology that is the heart of modern manufacturing, ITT Corporation's (NYSE: ITT) Goulds Pumps brand observed the second-annual Pump Appreciation Day April 9 to raise awareness of the value of pumps and the people and organizations that design, apply, install and service them.

In conjunction with Pump Appreciation Day, ITT Goulds Pumps donated $25,000 to the international Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Program, supported by the American Heart Association and its global partners. Events held on the second Tuesday of April each year include public recognition for recipients of the Heart of Industry and Pulse of Industry Awards, as well as open-house celebrations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training sessions and other educational events organized by the ITT Goulds Pumps sales team and distribution network.

At ITT Goulds Pumps headquarters in Seneca Falls, N.Y., a recognition event featured a presentation on heart-healthy eating habits, followed by a reception with specially prepared snack items that promote cardiovascular wellness. Similar events around the globe scheduled from April 9 through the balance of the year feature instruction on hands-only CPR, and participants worldwide can learn more about both pumps and the human heart on the Pump Appreciation Day website.

"Our food, our fuel, our clothing, nearly everything we use daily, has a pump somewhere in its processing," said Robert J. Pagano Jr., president of ITT Goulds Pumps. "We're thrilled to devote a special day and related activities to spotlighting the technology and people behind pumps -- the heart of industry -- and to promoting heart health."

Pumps are behind thousands of daily operations. They allow us to properly handle liquid chemicals for the creation of clothing, heart valves or life-saving medicines. When food needs to travel from farm to table -- sometimes from one side of the world to the other -- pumps are instrumental in the process. Pumps also take on the world's toughest jobs, such as draining an Olympic swimming pool at 200,000 gallons per minute, or transporting scalding 700 degrees C crude oil to a refinery.

In addition to Pump Appreciation Day events and awards programs, an online World of Pumps Quiz, which tests visitors' knowledge of the pump industry and its products, has attracted more than 15,065 unique visitors from 151 countries in the past five months.
